For the first time since I started this Blog in June 2010, I’ve gone about a month without posting.  So, the question is, where have I been and what have I been up to?

Most of that time has been taken up by packing up a 3 storey house and moving.  I know, incredibly boring right?  But the other thing that has been taking up my time has been exciting (at least to me it has).  I have just launched my Graphic Design business – Online Marketing Vibe.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been watching some of my Network Marketing team members literally sky rocket up through the rankings.  If you are anything like me, you have experienced a lot of skepticism from your warm market and have chosen to take the online approach to building your business to avoid that skepticism and doubt.  What I have been seeing in my team has convinced me that I am making a very poor business decision in ignoring that warm market. To become successful in Network Marketing, you have to possess leadership skills and you must develop leaders on your team.  You don’t want to ‘manage’ your team, you want to ‘lead’ your team.  Leaders are able to trigger our imaginations, inspire important ideas, and recruit our energies for great and noble purposes.  In short, leaders are individuals who are able to influence others.  Leaders must earn the respect, trust and allegiance of their team. If you were about to join a professional sports team, would you shop around and try to find the best team or would you jump onto the first team you find?  When it comes to joining a Network Marketing business, most people research the company, the management, and the products before joining a team, but rarely do they research one of the most important factors in their success in that particular opportunity – the team.

Over the next several weeks, I will be posting a number of modules on Network Marketing, beginning with the basics for those who are considering a Network Marketing business and those who are just starting out in the business.  From there the modules will focus on developing strong marketing skills and building creative marketing plans and promotions.  Even if you are an experienced Network Marketer, I encourage you to check out the modules.  There may be topics covered that refresh your motivation and any input that you add through the comments will greatly enhance the posts and help out those that are new to the business.

Before we get into the Network Marketing modules, I want to extend a unique invitation to you … an opportunity to experience the inner workings of a very innovative and successful team.  More on that later; first let’s take a look at what you need to consider before joining a team. Happy New Year! Are you ready to make 2011 your best year ever?  Here are some steps to get you off to a great start to the year:

Step 1:  Define Your Goals for 2011

If you don’t know what your goals are, you will never achieve them.  Determine your top 2 – 3 goals for the year.  They could be anything such as earning a specific amount of money, attaining a certain level in your company, health and wellness goals, writing or publishing a book … whatever is important to you to achieve in the next year.

Don’t be afraid to set big goals.  You want to stretch and challenge yourself, yet still be realistic.  Write your goals down.  This is a very important step.  Write them down and place them in a spot that you can see them and review them daily.  This will keep you focused on your objectives. It used to bother me a lot when I had a conventional j.o.b.  You work hard for your money, so who wants to see all of those earnings gone before you even get to take it home?  There must be a better way, right?

Add to that the fact that job security is a thing of the past and you find yourself working your butt off for 60% of your earnings in constant fear of layoffs, downsizing, restructuring, etc.  The good news is … there is a better way and it is more secure than working for an organization that doesn’t care about you.  Aside from many other benefits, owning your own home-based business allows you to take advantage of many great tax advantages.  In Ontario, Canada, there is even a deduction of 4.5% to your income tax rate.  Canadians can also write off 100% of new computers for business (including software).

Whether you are American or Canadian, you can take advantage of deducting any reasonable expense you paid or will have to pay to earn business income.  Some of the items you can claim are: Continue reading »

In Network Marketing the key to success is in building relationships and trust.  One skill that is often overlooked, but is an effective relationshiip builder,  is the art of listening.  “Listeners are powerful persuaders because they impact our attitudes and make us more successful.” ~ Vince DaCosta

Everyone wants to be listened to, so we seek out listeners.  If you establish yourself as a good listener, it will be easy for you to build meaningful relationships.  Ask questions and show sincere interest in what the other person is saying.

When we think of good communication skills, we often picture a great speaker.  However, communication is a two part equation.  We cannot be an effective speaker if no one is listening.  Listening skills have been overlooked in importance and they can give you the competitive edge that your buisness needs. I have added a new category to my Blog and in honour of this new category, Wendy’s Book Club, I would like to introduce you to a new book that was released just last week.

This weekend, I have been attending a Toastmasters Conference in Toronto.  My first stop when I arrived at the conference on Friday evening was the bookstore.  I purchased ‘Speeches That Will Leave Them Speechless: An ABC Guide to Magnifying Your Speaking Success‘, before realizing that the author, Kathryn MacKenzie, was speaking at the conference.   I had the honour of meeting Kathryn MacKenzie, and hearing her speak.  If you are interested in public speaking and honing your public speaking skills, I absolutely recommend this book.
